ACT for Meningitis

Every now and again I am humbled by the strength and power of parents that I come across. I was lucky enough to have been introduced to the website http://www.actformeningitis.ie which was set up by Siobhán and Noel Carroll, who in 2008 sadly lost their precious daughter Aoibhe, aged 4, to meningitis.  It is a non-profit organisation which aims to provide support to families who have been affected by meningitis but also to educate and inform other parents about the illness, its symptoms, and causes.

There is a tremendous amount of information on their website and I feel it’s something that all parents should read.  It is a wonderful resource to have in Ireland and they offer counselling and support to parents and children at their time of need.  I suffered from meningitis myself when I was eleven years old and whilst I was lucky and had the less severe viral form of the illness I have no doubt that the anxiety and anguish my parents felt at that time was formidable.  I know that if they had been lucky enough to have had access to an information  resource like this and all of the support that comes with it the whole ordeal would have been less stressful and traumatic.

I urge you all to check out http://www.actformeningitis.ie

My name is Sheena Mitchell and I'm a pharmacist with my own business Milltown totalhealth Pharmacy in Dublin 6. From working in the pharmacy I've realised that there are a lot of first time and experienced moms who might benefit from hints and tips from a pharmacist who can balance healthcare advice with real hands on experience from my important work as a mother of two! I hope to bring you regular advice and information and answer questions that you have! Being a mother and pharmacist are my two favorite things and I'm delighted to have this way of bringing my two worlds together! All questions and queries are gratefully received but otherwise sit back, relax, and let the solutions come to you!
